Top tip for something to do with your family that is free, or costs very little: Walking, with having a dog we have always walked. During winter museums are a good day out and free but some do charge for parking. Also check the internet for National Heritage and National Trust they usually have one weekend a year where their sites are free to get in. We’ve been to Belton House and Lincoln Castle on a freebie day.

Best way to relax once the kids are in bed: I like a glass of wine and watch some adult TV, something funny or a good film. I don’t watch TV in the week, I often work after my youngest goes to bed and once my eldest goes, I’m not long behind her.

Q: Firstly, tell us about Pretty Vintage House. We make bespoke gifts and homewares form vintage china, glass and vinyl. All our items are unique, no two are ever the same and can be made to order to go with your decor and lifestyle from chandeliers, table lamps to bird feeders. There’s something for every pocket. We also supply vintage items in their original form.

Q: How did the idea for Pretty Vintage House come about? I’ve always loved vintage, especially china as my collection grew I started to make cake stands as a hobby then the ideas evolved. I now make 12 different styles of bird feeders, and I’ve just added curtain tie backs to my designs.

Q: Did you have experience in running your own business?  How did you start? I’ve had no experience although my husband has run his own photography business for many years. I started mine on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/prettyvintagehouse and worked part time as a T/A in a school but now I do Pretty Vintage House full-time, I have a website http://www.prettyvintagehouse.com/ have an Etsy and Folksy shop online and sell in The Gallery, something old, something new in Barton which is always worth a look they have lots of other lovely items from talented designers. I’m also joining another shop next week in Horncastle. I would love to find one in the Beverly area.

Q: What’s it like to work at Pretty Vintage House? I love the mornings as when I worked in school I had to leave the house at 7am and for the first time last year I walked my son to school. What a treat! My days vary whether it’s a treasure hunting day for pieces I need, occasionally I will attend a vintage fair as a seller. Most days are spent working at home, making items, working online, posting and packing but I can do that around my family life whether it’s making tea or going to a school assembly.

Q: What’s your advice for fellow ‘mumpreneurs’? When working for yourself from home you can become more isolated, for a start you have no workmates to talk to, so make time for friends even if it’s just once a month. It will give you a break from children and work issues giving you motivation to work towards that next goal.

Q: What do you think has been the key to success for Pretty Vintage House? The personal service. A customer can see me in person if local or I’ll work online with them e.g. a miss match vintage teacup table lamp, the customer can tell me exactly in which order to place the cups then I’ll create the item.

Q: What makes Pretty Vintage House different? My gifts and homewares, you can’t find them in high street shops!

Q: What are your plans for the future? I would like to be in another designer shop/boutique. I have some other designs I’m working on not yet revealed, to keep learning new business skills and evolving.
