It’s that time of year again, when bats are in the belfry, Witches are brewing up strange potions and goblins and ghosts are on the loose. What’s that creak on the stairs and whose are those sinister footsteps outside your room?

Magic and Sawcery at The Deep!
19 October to 3 November

Come and explore the myths and legends around one of the world’s most endangered species, the sawfish.

Take part in the fun-filled magical interactive presentation at 11am, 1pm and 3pm daily, complete the fun-filled activity trail as you make your way around the building as well as family activities in Craft Corner between 11am and 4pm.

Pumpkin Party at Williams Den 
21st – 31st October

For a pumpkin-tastic party this Halloween, a visit to The Den is a must!

If you feel brave enough, William’s Petrifying Pumpkin Adventure is full of spooky delights with a trick or treat puzzle to complete. Then before pumpkin party time, children can pick their own pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch and create a pumpkin masterpiece at the carving station.

With Pumpkin games, pumpkin photo booth and broomstick racing to enjoy, make sure you leave time to visit the Ice SCREAM booth to try a frozen treat and work out the frightfully fantastic flavour!

Not forgetting all the adventures to be had in the indoor den and outdoor play areas.

Spooky Woodland Trail at Burton Agnes Hall & Gardens
26th October to 3rd November

Throughout the half-term break, Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens will be daring visitors of all ages to take part in a spooky woodland trail. Clues will be hidden in the Hall’s woodland, where dramatic and imaginative Halloween scenes will hide among the creaking trees and rustling bushes.

The Petrifying Pumpkin Hunt at Sledmere House!

27th October to 3rd November

Join us for a week of half term Halloween Fun and take part in our Petrifying Pumpkin Hunt, Beastly Broom Search, explore the Spooky Maze Maze and other fun activities. We will be doing a SPECIAL LATE NIGHT OPENING on Thursday 31st October so bring your little Ghosts and Ghouls for an evening of fun and games. 👻🎃

Halloween Lantern Walk in the Fairywood at Northwood Trails
25th October to 3rd November 

Guided walk through the twilight fairy woods.

Lantern walks at dusk and first dark, aimed at little ones or those of all ages who would rather not be scared witless, but want to enjoy a more seasonal experience instead.

Arrive to the Northwood kitchen and then be shown to the Autumn tent and have a free glass of alcoholic or non alcoholic punch. after a short storytelling from Professor Howlands collection, be taken on the lantern walk. Approximate total time 1 hour. Afterwards enjoy the fairy museum and relax in the Northwood kitchen bar.

Very limited sessions with a maximum of 40 per session. Come dressed for the season and weather with appropriate footwear. Please be on time for your session and arrive in good time as we cannot delay the starts. Runs from friday 25th Ocotber – sunday 3rd November inclusive tickets £12pp (under 3’s free)

Halloween Thrills & Spills at Burton Constable Hall
Saturday 26th October – 3rd November

You’ll find all the ingredients for a spooky adventure in the Stables and Grounds at Burton Constable during Halloween half-term.

Spooky Halloween Trail – Explore the Stables and Grounds as you follow the Spooky Halloween Trail, dare you enter the Derelict Stables of Doom? 10am to 5pm, last admission 4pm. After you’ve completed the trail collect your treat from the ticket desk.

Witches Hat Trail in the Hall – Agnus Spellious, the Hag of Holderness has mislaid all her hats in the Hall, can you help find them all? Witches Hat Trail 12pm to 5pm, last admission 4pm.

Dotty Doomsville, Spooky Photographer – Thursday 31st October Only. 11am to 2pm & 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Why not let Dotty Doomsville our Spooky Photographer capture a ghostly transformation of you and your friends. Priced at only £3 per person you can take it away with you on the day. Find her in the 2nd courtyard of the Stables.

It’s Halloween, the scariest night of the year and there is no better night to enjoy a spooky ghost walk through Burton Constable Hall.

Come and enjoy a frightfully good evening of spine-chilling tales and things that go bump in the night.

This is a ticket only event and sells out every year so early booking is recommended so why not gather up some friends and family, get dressed up, brush off your broomstick and join in the fun.

  • We use a timed entry ticket system to ensure everyone has good experience, once inside you will be taken on your tour which will last approximately 1 hour

Outside you will be able explore the stables and walk around the grounds on your own

The Stables Kitchen will be open from 5.30pm and will be serving Halloween Fayre, hot drinks and cakes so why not make an evening of it and eat here leaving you more time to spend dressing up.

Gift Shop – open from 5.30pm our gift shop will also be open for the evening so why not have a look for that early Christmas Gift or to book tickets for future events.

Pumpkin Festival

We’ve Halloween fun for all the family this half term at Burnby Hall Gardens.

Bring the best carved pumpkins!! 
If you would like to enter our pumpkin competition, please pick up an entry form from the Visitor Centre. Carved pumpkins can be delivered to the Gardens on Saturday 26th or Sunday 27th October so they can be put on display for the competition on Monday 28th October.

Half Term Halloween fun for all the family from Monday 28th October to Sunday 3rd November 10am until 4pm last entry 3.30pm. Winter admission prices apply.

Activities for the week include:

THE HALLOWEEN TRAIL: If you’re feeling brave, join us and go in search of scary skeletons, giant spider and other curious creatures in the Gardens!

BEST CARVED PUMPKIN COMPETITION: Vote for your favourite carved pumpkin displayed in the haunted Secret Garden.

Extra frighteningly good fun on Wednesday 30th October 10am until 3pm!

GHOST HUNT ADVENTURE:  Wednesday Only: Celebrate Halloween by going on a Rusticus Ghost-Hunting Adventure! Our hapless professor is on the hunt for ghosts at Burnby Hall Gardens this Halloween, but the spooks and spectres are playing tricks on him! Help him make sense of his latest ghost-detecting invention and delight in making mischief in the gardens with a whole array of ghostly characters, in this fun Rusticus adventure suitable for even the smallest witches and wizards!
Outdoor performance walk, with games and activities! Lasts approx. 45 mins. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Dress for the weather! Ghost hunting adventure times are 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm.

SPOOKY ARTS AND CRAFTS:  Wednesday Only: Crafts for all ages in the bandstand.

Join us if you dare!  We have all the ingredients here at Burnby Hall Gardens, Pocklington for plenty of Halloween fun for all the family!

Halloween at Skelf Island 
26th October to 3rd November

The Halloween trail at Skelf Island, together with the Straw Bale Maze in the Walled Garden, will be available from today (Saturday) until November 3. A gang of live Skelves will be in residence on October 19-20 and from October 26 until November 3.

Performances are at 10.30am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm and there’s also a trail in the woods which you can do too!! Rusticus performances are on Sat 19 & Sun 20 Oct, then every day between Sat 26 Oct – Sun 3 Nov 🎃🎃🎃

The event is included in the price of a gardens ticket, which can be purchased on the Castle Howard website.


There is no age restriction and the stately home is welcoming anyone to the event.
